Bike Tour to Makapu’u Lookout
Bike to Makapu’u Lookout
Let’s ride the south shore to Makapu’u Lookout–the easternmost point of Oahu. We’ll ride past Diamond Head and through Kahala. We’ll reach Makapu’u lookout and peer around to the windward side of the island. We can also stop at a waterfront coffee house on the way back to Waikiki.
What you’ll see along the way:
Diamond Head Lighthouse, Kuilei Cliffs, a dozen waterfront parks, ocean views, Hawaii Kai residential area, Koko Head, Hanauma Bay, Halona Blowhole and Lookout, Sandy Beach and the Makapu’u Lighthouse.
$ 99 per person sport road or electric-assist bike
$129 per person performance road bike
What to Expect:
The tour starts at our convenient location on the corner of Kaiulani and Kalakaua. We’ll make sure everyone is on the right sized bicycle and give you a safety introduction. From there we’ll head out along Waikiki Beach. We ride past Diamond Head and through Kahala. We take Kalanianaole Highway (wide paved shoulder) towards Hawaii Kai. We’ll climb up past Hanauma Bay and Koko Crater, then down along the winding Ka Iwi Coastline. We then reach Makapu’u point, where we can see around to the windward side and take in the drastic Koolau mountain range. We come home through the back roads of Hawaii Kai, then back to Waikiki via Kahala. We can stop at a waterfront coffee shop in Hawaii Kai for some extra energy too. We have different pedals (Look, Shimano, Speedplay) if you bring your cycling shoes or we can install flats or toe-cages. You have three bikes to choose from, our sport road bike, our pro road bike, or our electric-assist bicycle. Sport is an aluminum disc brake road bike, while pro is a carbon rim brake bicycle. Electric-assist is more of a cruiser, but allows for people who are less comfortable with distance to still participate. All are great options for riding to Makapu’u lookout!
